Amnesty International

Founded in London in 1961, Amnesty International is a Nobel Prize-winning grassroots activist organization with over one million members worldwide. Amnesty International is dedicated to freeing prisoners of conscience, gaining fair trials for political prisoners, ending torture, political killings and "disappearances."  Angola's chapter is affiliated with Amnesty International USA.

 Open to any interested student at any grade level

Purpose: To write Urgent Action letters on behalf of prisoners of conscience

What is a prisoner of conscience? A person imprisoned because of their sex, race, religious beliefs, or other rights as stated in the United Nations' Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
